SACMI acquires Pack Sud to strengthen its primary packaging position

Puglia-based company - a leading supplier of bakery product vertical packaging technology - provides a strategic skill and know-how boost that will enhance the SACMI Packaging & Chocolate Division's product range

With its takeover of Pack Sud, SACMI looks to reinforce its primary packaging position, expand its customer pool and complete its technology range. Made official on 30th June 2020, the takeover saw the SACMI Group acquire a 60% holding in the Bari-based company, an established manufacturer of food packaging and wrapping machines.

Founded in 2003, Pack Sud is a young, dynamic company that now brings its unique vertical packaging design and marketing know-how to the SACMI Packaging & Chocolate Division. Over the years, the company has developed close ties with local companies in the bakery field (such as the traditional tarallifici and makers of other bread-derived products) on account of the design advantages of their versatile, low cost machines.

Following the acquisition, SACMI confirmed that the Pack Sud management team will remain in charge so that close collaboration between the two companies' technical and sales teams can begin immediately. The goal? To insert this company into the vast, worldwide SACMI sales network and, by doing so, expand the vertical packaging and low-medium speed primary horizontal packaging machine range.

"The Pack Sud takeover", explains Giovanni Campolungo, CEO of SACMI Packaging & Chocolate, "represents a further step in the implementation of a strategy that has the twin goals of product range completion and market diversification. Pack Sud will bring SACMI exceptional, segment-specific expertise. This operation therefore completes us on both a technological level and in terms of target customers".

SACMI acquired a 60% share in Pack Sud - which employs fifteen people and turns over 2.5 million euros a year - with a view to expanding its holding to 100% in the coming years. As with other operations completed during the year, the aim is to seek out and enhance skills, bolster the know-how vital to business development and incorporate these strengths in the SACMI Group's global strategy. "With its takeover of Pack Sud", points out the President of SACMI Imola, Paolo Mongardi, "SACMI continues to pursue a strategy of growth on external lines too by acquiring companies with strategic skill and Italian expertise".

Analogously, February 2020 saw Pescara-based firm Velomat join the SACMI Group as part of an effort to diversify and expand the Closures range. "Our goal", adds Paolo Mongardi, "remains attainment and enhancement of the skills and know-how needed to develop the business and promote high quality Italian products, strengths we aim to incorporate in the SACMI Group's network and its global strategy".
